2006
It all began with an innocuous post countdown supper at Adam Hawker when there was an unexpected twist to an end...I had been idling at home, watching '06 countdown at home - routinely switching channels to watch the concurrent live broadcast of Taipei (CTI) and Kao Hsiung (TVBS) countdown. Nothing short of spectacular and vibrant, which had me making a mental note that I will have my '07 countdown in Taipei.
I guess the amount of pyrotechnics expended can tell how much a nation or a city has done well, economically. Taipei City showcased the world's tallest building (Taipei 101) with the world longest fireworks display (2 minutes plus nonstop). Click to see. Hmpff.. Singapore Esplanade how to fight?
Anyway, I had all reasons to stay at home. Of which, 1) Taiwan robs us of our superstars. Singers like Ah Du, Stephanie Sun, Guo Mei Mei were in Taiwan performing. So what's left for us? Mediacock celebrities, DJs? ekk.. 2) I hate the crowds and importantly the weather.. esp. after a heavy downpour in the afternoon. No good music, no good performance, how to get "high" ? 3) The heartlander celebrations, though a good idea, rob us of the celebrities whom should be performing in "prime locations like Sentosa, Orchard". Again, what's left for us? sigh. Never mind, I had 5 hours of good music and good performance in my spacious living room.
*Trying to make the sour grapes taste sweet*
Supper with Yousheng and William was great. Tulang (bone marrow of the sheep) was a hot dish.. all stalls sold out at Adam Hawker and so we settled for mutton soup and sheep brain! Before you decided to puke, read on. It's not as disgusting as you assume to be. As silky smooth as Tofu and if it's properly processed, you will not have any pungent smell. Worth the try.
Right on, we went to Taman Jurong playground where Yousheng and William had a hand or 2 on the guitars. William broke a string off my bao bei guitar.. this superstitiously led to an unexpected twist ... He received a call shortly that someone gotten into a fight.
I sent the duo to the scene and on the way, I got hold of the incident that their friend was drunk and took a wine bottle to smash it on someone's gf's head. Shortly after a fight broke out... then that friend has his head smashed too. And just as I thought this could only happen in dramas!!!
Ambulance was there when we were there.. All's well that ends well..
It's not the everyday thing that you will see in Singapore yet such things do happen. I don't know if I count myself lucky but I think it's weirdly funny to be involved in one way or another. Ha!
p/s: Ironically, my mum said something about having a better year ahead. She was cursing about how unlucky 2005 was.. and I had to witness such shit on the first day of the first month of 2006th year.
